If I Had A Hammer

Resting after Wrestling with Words

Resting after Wrestling with Words

For many years I've hammered my living
Nailing many lengths of wood
In houses, factories, mill and flats
I've hammered where I stood

Now my knees are hammered
They've just been replaced
With metal joints and plastic
My job is now displaced

A younger guy now hammers
I now write instead
Of experiences in the building trade
My past life almost dead

The callouses decreasing
My nails now back in shape
The cuts and bruises healing
Muscles no longer ache

But now I've writers cramp
I hammer a page a day
Might not sound too much
But easier than hammering nails away

You look quite happy despite your painful knees and I wish you a full recovery.
Enjoyed the poem.
